Stella Vognar received her Masters of Fine Arts degree from U.C.L.A. in 1984. Although the graduate work focused on 2 dimensional media, her postgraduate studies were in ceramics and it continues to be her primary medium. “I always found jobs that were art related.” This led to a variety of interesting positions, such as Disneyland’s decorating department, Antique Print Merchants at the Pacific Design Center and administrative/gallery work at Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro. Each of these job positions were a learning experience that informed her teaching career.

Ms. Vognar’s teaching career began in 1990 at Los Angeles Harbor College where she served as Gallery Director and Adjunct Instructor. Graphic design skills were an integral part of running the art gallery. When the computer and Adobe software programs became available to design the publicity materials, Stella was among the first at the college to use the Adobe software for graphic design.

Stella also taught ceramic classes at Fullerton College in Orange County before moving back to her childhood home in Wisconsin. At the University of Wisconsin La Crosse she was hired as full time Associate Lecturer to teach the Graphic Design and Foundations courses. In the summer of 2014, Stella retired from teaching and moved back to California where she resides in Joshua tree. She works as a freelance designer and continues to make ceramic art at her home studio. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally and is part of many private collections.

  1. Hi Stella,

My husband and I, with friends will be visiting in your area in March. I went to school with you in Fort. Not sure you will remember me, Deb Heth, we currently live in Las Vegas. Where is your studio located?
